Personal
My personal work is driven by curiosity and experimentation. I take inspiration from everyday textures, vintage magazines, music and history just to name a few.
Often an idea starts with something small, like a lyric from a song, an interesting image, or a texture I’ve noticed somewhere. From there I’ll build ideas around it. Sometimes that means creating fictional album artwork or book covers, just as a way to explore an idea and see where it goes.
Collage is a big part of my process. I enjoy cutting and assembling pieces by hand, then photographing them and bringing them into a digital space to create new compositions. There’s something exciting about mixing physical and digital methods because unexpected things often happen along the way.
I also spend a lot of time exploring archive imagery. After discovering a list of archive resources through a talk by designer Elizabeth Goodspeed, it became a huge part of how I find inspiration. I’ve always loved history, so digging through old imagery and discovering forgotten details is something I find really fascinating.
Across my personal work I’m drawn to the beauty in imperfection. Textures, rough edges, jittery motion and the occasional happy accident often find their way into what I make. A lot of my learning has come from simply experimenting, opening up software, trying things out and seeing what happens.
